Agora99 is a Euro-Mediterranean meeting on Debt, Democracy and Rights which will be held in Madrid from November 1st to 4th
The meeting was proposed at the European Blockupy action days held in Frankfurt (May 17th to 20th), which identified the need for citizens to create international spaces to discuss issues such as the loss of sovereignty and rights, both social and civil, caused by austerity policies and the excessive power of financiers, as well as the need for a working framework to design common strategies.
The meeting’s aim is to put together a working calendar and common tools around Ágora’s three pillars: debt, democracy and rights.
How is the meeting organised?
INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOPS: Meetings to introduce the three pillars.
ROUND TABLE: A more formal presentation with representatives of the European networks coming together for discussions on Friday November 2nd at 10:00.
WORKSHOPS: Sessions for practical work and knowledge exchange. There will be several workshops for each pillar (Debt, Rights, Democracy), which will put forward proposals to be debated in the working groups.
WORKING GROUPS: Proposals made during the workshops for each pillar will be structured and developed.
GENERAL ASSEMBLY: All proposals developed in the working groups will be shared and a consensus will be sought on which actions should be carried out.
During the meeting there will be:
· an ongoing workshop on civil disobedience,
· a space for mapping European initiatives, and the
· countrywide assembly of #peoplewitness, a network of streamers broadcasting political and social breaking news.
In Agora 99 we believe that communicating and broadcasting what happens at this meeting is a crosscutting task which can be shared by all participants. Therefore we would like to take advantage of this event to promote the use of tools which facilitate and multiply communication.
On Thursday November 1st there will be introductory workshops on Twitter and Bambuser which will provide basic knowhow and encourage participants to use both these networking tools during the four days of the meetings.
Each session will have its own HT (hashtag or tag) and there will be at least one support person on hand for Bambuser and another for Twitter. They will answer queries and provide more information as participants become more skilled in the use of these tools.
Ágora is an inclusive meeting organised by citizens and open to everyone who wishes to attend.

Del 1 al 4 de noviembre se celebra en Madrid Ágora99, un encuentro Euro Mediterráneo sobre Deuda, Democracia, y Derechos
La propuesta nace en las jornadas europeas “Blockupy” que tuvieron lugar en la ciudad de Frankfurt del 17 al 20 de mayo, tras la cuales se definió la necesidad de que la ciudadanía disponga de espacios para tratar, a nivel internacional, temas como la pérdida de soberanía y de derechos tanto sociales como civiles, que conllevan las políticas de recortes y el exceso de poder financiero, así como disponer de un marco de trabajo para trazar estrategias comunes.
El objetivo es salir del encuentro con un calendario de trabajo y herramientas comunes en torno a los tres ejes del Ágora: deuda, democracia y derechos.
¿En qué va a consistir?
El encuentro tendrá diferentes tipos de espacios de trabajo:
TALLER DE PRESENTACIONES: Primer momento de encuentro por ejes, en el cual se hace una breve introducción por taller.
MESAS REDONDAS: Habrá una el viernes por la mañana, será un espacio más clásico en forma de charla con representantes de los distintos nodos de las redes europeas.
TALLERES: Serán espacios de trabajo práctico y de intercambio de saberes. Habrá diferentes talleres por cada uno de los ejes (Deuda, Derechos, Democracia) de los cuales saldrán propuestas que se trabajaran en los grupos de trabajo.
GRUPOS DE TRABAJO/PROPUESTAS: Cada uno de los ejes, después de los talleres, tendrá un punto de convergencia en los cuales se volcaran las propuestas de cada taller, para agruparlas y trabajarlas entre todas .
ASAMBLEA GENERAL: momento en el cual pondremos en común todas las propuestas y consensuaremos las que llevaremos acabo en común.
Asimismo, durante el encuentro se realizará un taller contínuo de desobediencia civil, contaremos con un espacio en el cual se mapearán iniciativas europeas y la asamblea estatal de #peoplewitness, una red de streamers conectados que retransmiten en directo noticias de interés político-social.
Como en Agora 99 entendemos que la difusión y la comunicación de lo que suceda en este encuentro es una labor transversal y compartida por todas las que lo formamos, nos gustaría aprovechar dicho evento para potenciar el uso de herramientas que facilitan y multiplican esta comunicación.
Con tal objetivo proponemos, para el jueves 1, talleres de Twitter y Bambuser. La intención de estos talleres es dar las nociones básicas para que todas las participantes en el encuentro se animen a utilizar dichas herramientas durante todo el encuentro.
En cada una de estas sesiones tendrá un HT y habrá como mínimo una persona de apoyo de Bambuser y otra de Twitter. Su función será resolver dudas e ir dando más indicaciones según vaya avanzando el nivel de destreza de los participantes.
Se trata de un encuentro propuesto por los ciudadanos, inclusivo y abierto a todas aquellas personas que quieran participar.
